You will gain an understanding of the way technology is transforming construction, and will be ready and equipped to work with this technology. You will also learn more about contemporary issues facing the industry - in particular sustainability and the environment - and about the role that construction plays in addressing these issues.

The construction industry is a very practical, technical and hands-on environment, and teaching and learning on the course reflects this. You will learn from real life examples, work-related learning, practical sessions, site inspections and expert guest speakers from the sector – all of which brings learning to life and makes for a dynamic student experience.

Evening classes are available, subject to minimum class size.

  • Legal & Statutory Responsibilities in Construction (15 credits)

  • The Construction Environment (15 credits)

Year 2:

  • Advanced Construction Drawing & Detailing (15 credits)
  • Construction Technology for Complex Buildings Projects (15 credits)
  • Contracts & Management (15 credits)
  • Group Project (Pearson-set) (15 credits)
  • Maintenance & Operations (15 credits)
  • Personal Professional Development (15 credits)
  • Project Management (15 credits)
  • Sustainable Methods of Construction (15 credits)

There are no formal examinations required for this course.  Assessments are undertaken in various ways: 

  • Presentations
  • Reports/Project reports
  • In-class tests
  • Work-based projects
  • Professional discussions
  • Writing an assignment/report/essay
  • CAD drawings and specifications
  • Practical assessments
  • Analysing a case study
  • Completing a portfolio of evidence

You will be required to work in your own time to complete research, homework tasks or group work.

Self-study is vital to your success on this course and lecturers will give you guidance on how best to approach this throughout the study period.

Applicants Must be Aged 18+ and: 

  • Have a Level 3 qualification or an Access to Higher Education certificate.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency: GCSE 4/C or CEFR B2. If you do not have this qualification, you can carry out an English test provided at a ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø campus.
  • Pass an Academic interview.

Applicants Aged 21+:

  • We welcome applications from students 21+ who do not match the standard entry requirements but who can demonstrate willingness and commitment to studying this subject, and who can evidence academic, professional or vocational experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency: GCSE 4/C or CEFR B2. If you do not have this qualification, you can carry out an English test provided at a ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø campus.

Funding Your Study
You can apply for financial help to support your studies by visiting gov.uk/student finance.
This could take the form of a Tuition Fee Loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees, and/or a Maintenance Loan to support you with living costs whilst studying.
  • If you are eligible, you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan which will be paid directly to your university or learning provider and is used to settle your tuition fees on your behalf. You will be required to start repaying the loan when you have finished your studies, and your income is above the required threshold set out by the UK Government. 

  • If you are eligible, you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan, these funds are paid directly into your bank account in accordance with your course of study and pre-set intervals. The maintenance loan repayment operates in the same way as it does for tuition fee loans.

  • All students need to meet the eligibility criteria to apply such as eligibility checks on your nationality, residency status and any previous study that you have been funded for.
